A Resolution in Support of Two Referenda Related to Subdivision Development in Santa Cruz County, Arizona to be Voted on November 4, 2008
On December 12, 2007 the Santa Cruz County Supervisors voted 2 to 1 to approve two massive urban developments in the Northwest area of the County near the town of Tubac. That vote disregarded the recommendations of the Santa Cruz County Planning and Zoning Commission, ignored the expressed wishes of an overwhelming majority of citizens in the area and made a mockery of the Comprehensive Development Plan adopted unanimously by the Supervisors on June 29, 2004. Approval of such massive and dense development – projected to nearly double the County’s population -- is a dangerous precedent for similar future decisions that collectively will eventually destroy the rural character of northwestern Santa Cruz County.
Arizona Borderlands Democrats, a Democratic club, hereby approves this resolution to support referenda that will appear on the general election ballot this November to overturn the Supervisors’ vote and respect the advice of the Planning and Zoning Commission, residents of the northwest county and the integrity of the Comprehensive Development Plan. Arizona Borderlands Democrats will campaign strongly and encourage all of the voters it contacts in it Get Out the Vote efforts to vote no on the two referenda. Vote NO on Propositions 400 and 401.
