Help Support the Public Option
We've done a lot
of work over the last several months to get us here today, but we still
have months to go before we win. The key to victory remains in our ability
to show broad-based support for the choice of a public option. It's time
to use our massive grassroots support for change and step it up in our
local communities.

Democratic committee? If so, then we need you to stand up

Action to pass Public Option Resolutions at the local level. It
doesn't matter if your local group is big or small, a DFA group or Sierra
Club chapter, your Democratic Club or statewide Democratic Party. It might
even be your local Chamber of Commerce or Resident Association.
There are thousands of local groups around the country
representing millions of Americans who could stand up and amplify our
voices.

How do I know that this works? Look what just
happened in Montana.
As FireDogLake-com reported last
week, a coalition of eighteen Montana Democratic Central Committees issued
a Unified Statement.
"The statement sends a loud and clear message to their Senator: Any health care reform package coming out of his Senate Finance Committee must contain, at a minimum, a provision for a strong public option."Sen. Baucus, who chairs the Senate Finance Committee, responded immediately to this kind of organizing.
"Senator Max Baucus has finally broken his silence regarding his personal position on including a public option in health care reform legislation in an unprecedented conference call to Montana Democratic central committee chairs; the powerful leader of the Senate Finance Committee told his strongest supporters that he supported a public option."This is no guarantee that Senator Baucus will back up his personal position with action in the committee he chairs, but there can be no denying that these local community members took local grassroots pressure to the next level. Now, it's up to us to do it everywhere.
